What a great month it has been for releases. You can clearly notice that the winter and Christmas are coming: just before the end of the September – December season there has been a lot of releases; just in time for the holidays or just in time to give the fans the possibility to play, listen or read through the winter break. I have also enjoyed November on that area.

It already started strong in the gaming world. Firstly the big release of Modern Warfare 3, which I don't have a lot with but I do understand it was a big day for the fans, something which also became clear because of the queue's of campers (pun intended) who could be found before the shops on the night before. After that of course Skyrim was released, something which the fans, of which I am one, have looked forward to for years. And thanks to the announcement of it in December of the year before we also got eleven months to eat ourselves up while we had to wait. The suspense among the fans was discharged on the eleventh and immediately or in the weeks that followed all over the internet covered songs or home made clips or artwork were uploaded which merely showed how happy they were with the release. And of course as final big title (as far as I have followed it) a new part in the Assassin's Creed series was released, which I still haven't been able to start on.

It was also a good month in Metal country. Among others a new The Devils Blood arrived and also finally a new Dragonland. For me personally however there were two albums which I really looked forward to, and I also discovered that a new album of New Keepers of the Water Towers, a stoner band, was released (in April already even), but I could only hear that for the first time this month because they are just a small band and therefore their release unfortunately didn't got any attention on the news sites. But the albums I really looked forward to both belong in the symphonic/power genre: Nightwish' Imaginaerum and Theocracy's As The World Bleeds. The album of Nightwish unfortunately is a bit of a let down after all the high expectations, but still it is an album that is lovely to listen to and thus I really look forward to the movie with the same name they are making. I also had high expectations of the album of Theocracy, but they did manage to live up to them. In fact, they even managed to surpass my expectations and if I think about and list all the releases this year which were important for me (Within Temptation, Amon Amarth, HammerFall, Symphony X, Myrath, Sparzanza, Machine Head, …undoubtedly forgot a lot more) real quickly I think only the fantastic album of Myrath surpasses it as best album of 2011.

It was of course also a great month for books with the release of Inheritance, but I already said enough about that yesterday.

Altogether it has been a busy month to keep track to. Probably now there is time to breath again, because traditionally March is the next big month for the release of games and albums. Thus December shall become a calm month for releases, but with the holidays and hopefully snow that month shall become nice as well!

Wat een geweldige maand voor releases is het geweest. Het is duidelijk te merken dat de winter en de kerstdagen eraan komen: vlak voor het einde van het seizoen september – december wordt er ontzettend veel uitgegeven; net op tijd voor de feestdagen of net op tijd om de fans in de winterstop door te kunnen laten spelen, luisteren of lezen. Ook ik heb op dat vlak enorm genoten van november.

Het begon al zeer sterk op de gamemarkt. Eerst de grote release van Modern Warfare 3, waar ik zelf weinig mee heb maar ik wel snap dat het een grote dag was voor de fans, iets wat ook wel bleek aan de rijen campers (pun intended) die in de avond ervoor bij de winkels verbleven. Daarna kwam uiteraard Skyrim uit, iets waar de fans, waar ik mezelf onder schaar, jarenlang naar hebben uitgekeken. En dankzij de aankondiging ervan in december van het jaar ervoor kregen we ook nog eens elf maanden om onszelf op te vreten terwijl we moesten wachten. De spanning onder de fans kwam tot een grote ontlading op de elfde en overal op het internet kwamen direct of in de weken erna gecoverde liedjes of zelfgemaakte filmpjes of artwork die alleen maar aantoonden hoe blij ze waren met de release. En als laatste grote titel (zover ik gevolgd heb) kwam natuurlijk een nieuw deel in de Assassin's Creed reeks, waar ikzelf nog steeds niet aan heb kunnen beginnen.

Ook in Metalland was het een goede maand. Zo kwam er een nieuwe The Devils Blood en ook eindelijk een nieuwe Dragonland. Voor mij persoonlijk kwamen er echter twee albums waar ik erg naar uitkeek, en ook ontdekte ik dat er een nieuw album van New Keepers of the Water Towers, een stoner band, uitgekomen was (sinds april al zelfs), maar daar kon ik deze maand pas voor het eerst naar luisteren omdat zij slechts een kleine band zijn en daardoor hun release helaas geen aandacht heeft gekregen op de nieuwssites. Maar de albums waar ik erg naar uitkeek horen beide in het symphonic/power hoekje: Nightwish' Imaginaerum en Theocracy's As The World Bleeds. Het album van Nightwish valt helaas een beetje tegen naar alle verwachtingen, maar nochtans is het een album dat heerlijk wegluistert en ik kijk dan ook erg uit naar de gelijknamige film die ze aan het maken zijn. Ook van het album van Theocracy had ik hoge verwachten, maar zij hebben die wel helemaal weten waar te maken. Sterker nog, ze hebben mijn verwachtingen zelfs overtroffen en als ik alle voor mij belangrijke releases dit jaar (Within Temptation, Amon Amarth, HammerFall, Symphony X, Myrath, Sparzanza, Machine Head, …ongetwijfeld nog veel vergeten) even snel in mijn hoofd op een rijtje zet denk ik dat alleen het geweldige album van Myrath het voorbij komt als beste album van 2011.

Het was natuurlijk voor mij ook een geweldige boekenmaand met de uitgave van Erfenis, maar daar heb ik gisteren al genoeg over gezegd.

Al met al is het een drukke maand geweest om bij te houden. Waarschijnlijk is het nu weer even een tijdlang op adem komen, aangezien traditioneel gezien maart pas weer een grote maand is voor de uitgave van games en albums. December zal dus op releasevlak een rustige maand worden, maar met de feestdagen en hopelijk sneeuw zal die maand ook leuk worden!
