Every year Earth Year
Tomorrow it is Earth Hour again. People around the world are going to turn off the lights, burn a shitload of candles outside, and sit around in the dark together. Talking about cosy. Personally I don't like this initiative very much. Perhaps it helps to get some people to actually do something and create awareness, but on the other hand it doesn't help anything and it is nonsense to do something like that for an hour.

Because the point is that we should not do something like that for just an hour. We should be aware of our energy consumption all year around instead. We need to lower the heating a bit, take the bicycle or public transport more instead of the car and turn off the lights every single time when we leave a room. It is hypocritical of us to just do something like that for just an hour to clean our conscience and show everyone that "we care", while when the hour is over we will turn on all the lights again, happy that we are with fulfilled hearts that we just saved the world. But of course that doesn't help. And that is the main problem here: these activities buy off our guilt, but they do not change our behaviour. Like I already stated, we should lower our energy usage all year round. We should have an Earth Year every year.

Above that, I don't think that it will help a lot. There are a lot of reasons why we should lower our energy consumption, for instance to prevent our air becoming too polluted (by power plants and cars) or just to save money and resources, but because we need to "save our planet" is not one of them. Not because we shouldn't care about our planet, but simply because we don't have such a high impact as everyone thinks. And quite frankly, climate change is something which has been going on since the start of our planet, not just the last fifty years.

Because I am lazy I will let someone else explain it for me:
